Can I vote by mail?

In New Jersey, any voter can now vote by mail. You do not need a reason to vote by mail. Don't feel like going to the polls? Simply vote by mail. Now there is no excuse not to vote!

As a Newark resident you may apply for a mail-in ballot if you are a qualified and registered voter by written application to the County Clerk's Office. You must apply for a mail-in ballot by April 12. You may also apply in person to the Clerk's office, or by authorized messenger, on any day up to 3:00 p.m. the day before an election.

The County Clerk cannot accept faxed or e-mailed copies of the Vote by Mail Application (unless you are an overseas voter, see below), since an original signature is required.

What you must do:

You may download an Vote by Mail Application, or pick one up in person at the Clerk's Office or from your local, municipal clerk; AND
Send completed application to PO Box 690, Newark, NJ 07101-0690; OR present the application in person at the Clerk's Office
